Volunteering comes in several varieties, each with its own perks and responsibilities. Plus, HONK!TX is FREE to the public and will be taking place in the streets of Austin. That means, among other things, that you can enjoy the festival while still volunteering!
Pre-Production
We sure do have a lot of place-making and bike fixing to do. Maybe you’d rather enjoy HONK!TX as an audience member or participant, but you still really want to help out? Please do, and check the bicycles box or miscellanous and let us know you want to help make buttons, signs and other fab things before HONK!TX gets underway.
Busking & Donations
Shake your money maker! No, really. This is a community sponsored event, and everything counts, from pursuing big arts grants to getting that single dollar-in-the-bucket from a smiling kid on the last day of the festival. If you’re warm, enthusiastic, fond of dancing, smiling and asking for money – or you know a thing or two about funding sources – sign up in one of these spots!
Housing
Hosting a band in your home is one of the best and most helpful ways to be involved with our community festival. While we can’t offer any compensation, we can guarantee that the friendships and memories you make with your guests will be treasured for years to come.
Offering up a palatial estate near the country would be a wonderful gesture, but
proximity to central Austin and/or reliable bus stops is a key factor for HONK!TX. The bands have a demanding performance schedule during their visit, and ease of transportation will be very important.
Think you would like to host some members of a band? Answer our housing questionnaire with our online google form
Transportation
Transportation as a whole will be multi-modal, but we plan on having some vehicles and will need some drivers.
You must be at least 25 and have a valid, state-issued driver’s license and current insurance.
Think you would like to help transport band members? Please fill out the volunteer form on the right, making sure to check the “I can help transport the bands” checkbox.
Food & Hospitality
If you have a flair for food, please submit your application and make sure you check the “I can help feed the bands” checkbox.
* New this year: we’re feeding 450+ musicians with a Texas-sized potluck. Find out more, and sign up to bring your tasty treats, by visiting this link.
Street Team
This task involves distributing posters, fliers, and information during one of several excursions, and ongoing promotion of the festival through word of mouth.
If you’d like to be a part of the street team, please submit your application making sure you check the “I can help with the street team” checkbox.
Staging
Primary responsibilities include soliciting donations from the crowd, handing out schedules and maps, providing information, assisting bands with finding their stages, and running messages.
We will also need a few volunteers to help direct the bands to their stages and make sure things stay on schedule. If you’re well-organized and love music, let us know!
All those interested in being a part of the staging crew should submit their applications with the “I can help with staging and crowds!” checkbox marked.
Miscellaneous, Parking, Green and the rest…
Just fill out the enclosed volunteer application and mark the checkboxes you think you may be interested in. We’ll get back to you quickly and discuss the possibilities. Keep in mind that you’re not limited to just one position, and the more involved you become, the more opportunities you will have to experience the magic this festival weaves.
WHAT NEXT?
We’re excited to meet you, and to offer our thanks in advance for your volunteerism. Now, it’s up to you. If you have any questions or concerns, just drop a line to honktxvolunteer@gmail.com or honktxhousing@gmail.com and we’ll get right back to you.
